9. Media and File Sharing
When you share photos, videos, documents, or other files, we process those files to deliver them to your chosen recipients. We access only the specific items you select, and only media you choose to save is written to your device. We do not scan, index, or catalogue your library.
10. Push Notifications
We use push notifications to alert you about messages, calls, and important updates, delivered via Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). You can customize or disable notifications in app or device settings.
11. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the limited circumstances below:
- Service providers — vendors who operate the platform (cloud hosting, OTP/SMS delivery, crash reporting, push notifications), bound to process data only as instructed.
- Legal obligations — to comply with law or valid legal requests.
- Enforcement and protection — to enforce our Terms and protect users.
- Business transfers — in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with prior notice.
12. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. Where we transfer data internationally, we use safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for EEA/UK transfers, encryption in transit and at rest, and binding data processing agreements.
13. Data Retention
- Account data is retained while your account remains active.
- Undelivered messages are held only until delivered, then removed within a short period.
- Server logs and diagnostics are retained for a limited period, then deleted or anonymized.
- Some data is retained as necessary to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.
- Backups: residual copies may persist briefly until overwritten on our standard cycle.
14. Account Deletion
How to request deletion
Delete your account in-app via Settings → Account → Delete Account, or by contacting [PRIVACY EMAIL].
What is deleted
We delete your profile information, account record, and associated server-side data, and remove you from your groups.
What may remain temporarily
Limited information may persist briefly: residual backup copies until overwritten, and data we must keep for legal, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution reasons. Content you previously sent may remain on recipients’ devices, which is outside our control.
Timelines
We aim to complete deletion of server-side data within 30 days of a verified request, with backup copies cycled out shortly thereafter.
15. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These include access controls, hashed password storage, secure transmission, activity monitoring, and the account-protection features below.
Account protection features
- Two-Step Verification (chat security PIN): an optional password/PIN that adds an extra layer of protection. When enabled, it is required to register your number on a new device and can be required to open the app, helping prevent unauthorized access even if someone gains control of your SIM or device. We cannot recover or reset it for you, so keep it safe.
- App lock: optional device-level biometric or PIN lock. Any biometric check is performed by your device’s OS; we do not collect or store biometric data.
- Session management: view and sign out of active sessions and linked devices.
- Login alerts: be notified when your account is registered on a new device.
- Suspicious activity detection: automated systems help detect and block unusual login patterns.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. We will never ask you for your password, PIN, or verification code by message, email, or phone call.
16. Encryption and Security Practices
- Encryption in transit: communication between the app and our servers uses industry-standard transport encryption (TLS).
- Encryption at rest: personal data stored on our servers is encrypted at rest using strong encryption.
- Password protection: passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes, never in plain text.
- Contact matching: phone numbers may be hashed or processed using privacy-preserving methods before matching.
- Ongoing review: we periodically review our systems to identify and address security risks.
Scope note. This policy describes only the protections actually in place. It does not claim end-to-end encryption, zero-knowledge architecture, or fully anonymous communications, so that our disclosures remain accurate.
17. Children’s Privacy
TalksTry is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or the higher minimum age required by law in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the applicable age. If we learn we have, we will take steps to delete it. Parents or guardians may contact [PRIVACY EMAIL].
18. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:
- Right to access your personal data.
- Right to correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to deletion of your personal data.
- Right to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent for optional processing.
- Right to data portability where applicable.
- Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or “share” personal information as defined under California law.
To exercise any right, contact [PRIVACY EMAIL]. We will respond within the time required by law (generally within 30 days).
19. How to Manage or Revoke Permissions
Android
Settings → Apps → TalksTry → Permissions — then toggle individual permissions on or off.
iPhone (iOS)
Settings → TalksTry → Permissions — then enable or disable Camera, Microphone, Photos, Contacts, Location, and Notifications.
Revoking a permission may disable the related feature, but you can continue using the rest of the app.
20. Third-Party Services
We use a limited set of third-party providers, which may include:
- Firebase (Cloud Messaging, Crashlytics) for notifications and diagnostics.
- Google Cloud Platform for hosting and infrastructure.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) for iOS notifications.
- Analytics providers for aggregate, privacy-focused usage insights.
- Crash reporting services for stability diagnostics.
These providers process data on our behalf according to their own privacy policies and our agreements with them.
21. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes we will provide prominent notice (such as an in-app notice). Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
